Datasensing SS-SP Series

The SS-SP Series provides a flexible and high-performance line of M18 photo-electric sensors designed for demanding industrial applications. With support for multiple optical detection modes (diffuse, polarized retro-reflective, background suppression) and adjustment features, this series ensures reliable object detection, versatile mounting, and industrial robustness throughout manufacturing and automation environments.

Design & Functionality

• The series uses a M18 × 1 cylindrical housing, suitable for standard industrial mounting and accommodating various optic / connector options (cable, M12 plug). 
• Detection modes include short-distance diffuse reflection (e.g., ~100 mm), polarized retro-reflective, background suppression (BGS), and long-span receiver models (up to ~14 m in some emitter/receiver variants) — offering wide application flexibility. 
• Output logic is selectable: Light-On or Dark-On, and models include NPN or PNP types. For example in one variant: Output type PNP LO/DO selectable. 
• Switching frequency (typical) ~250 Hz, response time ~2 ms in diffuse variants.
• Operating voltage is 10…30 V DC, with full electrical protection (reverse polarity, short-circuit auto-reset) and mechanical protection IP67, enabling deployment in industrial environments. 
• Adjustable models feature trimmers or lateral adjustment for precise alignment in installation, supporting simpler setup and calibration. 

Total Crossed Beams

(In this context, “total crossed beams” refers to the sensor providing consistent detection coverage across its sensing zone rather than literal crossed optical beams.)

• The SS-SP Series ensures a stable detection field even in compact mounting or variable background conditions, which reduces missed detections and false triggers in automation systems.
• This reliability is particularly important for high-throughput material-handling, packaging lines and conveyor systems where object presentation or background may vary.

Beam Pitch Options

(Here taken to mean the range of sensing distances / optical variants rather than literal beam spacing.)

• Example: a diffuse-reflection model has a nominal sensing distance of ~100 mm (white target). 
• Another variant supports retro-reflective detection distances up to ~4 m and polarized versions around ~3 m. 
• A receiver model variant offers sensing distance up to ~14 m. 
• These variant options allow selection of sensor based on target size, mounting clearance, background reflectivity and application span — offering flexibility in system design.

Intrinsic Synchronism

• The electronics are self-contained — no external synchronisation wiring is required — simplifying installation and maintenance.
• Time before availability (startup) is ≤ 200 ms in many models.
