Datasensing S8 Series
The S8 Series delivers a premium family of compact cubic photo-electric sensors, engineered for tight-space installation, versatile detection modes, and industry-grade reliability. With optical variants covering background suppression on transparent materials, high-resolution contrast detection, laser-spot precision, and compact mounting, the series provides exceptional flexibility, superior detection of difficult targets, and robust performance in harsh or clean-factory environments.
Design & Functionality
- The housing size is extremely compact (14 Γ 42 Γ 25 mm) enabling installation in space-constrained machine frames, conveyor side-channels or tight packaging modules.
- Optical mode variants include:
β’ Background-suppression models for transparent or reflective objects (e.g., film, bottles, shiny surfaces).
β’ Contrast sensors capable of switching frequencies up to ~25 kHz for mark-detection and super-fast applications.
β’ Laser-spot models with extremely focused beam (<1 mm) for micro-part detection and high precision.
β’ Stainless-steel housing versions with IP69K protection for heavy-wash, food & pharma, or harsh industrial environments. - Connectivity & control: IO-Link parametrisation with dual-channel, selectable NPN/PNP logic, Teach-in or trimmer adjustment, enabling smart integration into Industry 4.0 systems.
- Mechanical/Environmental robustness: Many models carry an IP67 or IP69K rating, making them suitable even in wash-down zones or high-hygiene applications.
Total Crossed Beams
(In this context, this term is used to indicate that the sensor delivers consistent detection coverage across its sensing field rather than literal crossed optical beams.)
- The S8 Series ensures a stable detection zone even when mounted in tight frames or when detecting small, shiny, transparent, or fast-moving objects β resulting in fewer missed detections, higher repeatability, and better performance in automated systems.
- This reliability is particularly valuable for packaging lines, food & beverage machines, bottle handling, transparent film detection and other high-precision automation contexts.
Beam Pitch Options
(Here interpreted as variant options for sensing distance and optical mode rather than literal beam pitch.)
- Example: Through-beam variants up to ~25 m span.
- Example: Retro-reflective for transparents (coaxial) up to ~0.8 m (or ~2 m in T53 versions) for very short-range detection of film/foil.
- Example: Background suppression ~50β¦300 mm on standard versions.
- These variant options allow selection of an S8 model matched to your target size, mounting clearance, background or transparent conditions and throughput requirements β providing design flexibility.
Intrinsic Synchronism
- The electronics and optics are fully integrated within the same compact housingβno external synchronising modules are necessaryβsupporting a simpler wiring scheme and faster commissioning.
- With built-in Teach-in or trimmer adjust, status LEDs (power/ output), and optionally IO-Link diagnostics, the S8 series simplifies setup and improves maintainability.
Operational Advantages
- Compact footprint with high performance: Despite its miniature size, the S8 Series handles difficult detection tasks such as transparent packaging, shiny bottles, tiny parts and high-speed conveyors.
- Versatile optical modes in one family: From contrast mark detection, background suppression, laser-spot precision, to long-span through-beam, the S8 line eliminates the need for multiple sensor families.
- Cutting-edge connectivity and diagnostics: With IO-Link, dual-channel outputs, selectable logic, and fast switching (up to ~25 kHz), the series supports modern automation and Industry 4.0 readiness.
- Industrial & hygienic readiness: With IP67/IP69K stainless-steel options, the S8 is suitable for food, beverage, pharma, and other demanding environments.
- Applications: Ideal for food & beverage packaging lines, transparent film detection, electronics assembly, conveyor presence/absence, high-speed part counting, and any system where space-limited installation, fast detection, and reliable sensing of challenging targets are required.
