Datasensing NAMUR Series
The NAMUR Series delivers specialised inductive metal-detection with intrinsically safe output suited for hazardous areas or where external amplifier modules are used. With thread sizes from M4 up to M30 and shielded or non-shielded versions, these sensors provide reliable detection of metal parts with minimal wiring and simple integration.
Design & Functionality
- Available in a range of sizes (M4, M5, M8, M12, M18, M30) to match different mounting spaces and target-object sizes.
- Nominal sensing distances vary according to size and mounting (e.g., ~1 mm for small heads, up to ~10 mm or more for M30 versions) enabling flexibility in application.
- The output is NAMUR-type (change in impedance rather than standard switching) which requires an external amplifier to convert the signal, making it suitable for safety circuits and automation systems in hazardous zones.
- Both shielded (flush-mount) and unshielded (non-flush) versions are available, enabling choice of mounting depth and interference tolerance.
- Built for industrial reliability: repeat accuracy is typically < 3 %, hysteresis < 10 %, and operating voltage around 7.7โ9 V DC in many models.
Total Crossed Beams
(In this sensor category, the term corresponds to a consistent magnetic detection field across the active face rather than literal optical beams.)
- The NAMUR Series ensures a uniform sensing zone, enabling reliable detection of metal parts regardless of slight positional or orientation variationsโimportant when used in hazardous or restricted operation areas.
- This leads to repeatable detection performance that supports safety or monitoring systems with minimal false triggers.
Beam Pitch Options
(Here the analogous concept is selectable sensing distances/resolutions rather than beam spacing.)
- Nominal sensing distances include ~1 mm (for finest size), ~5 mm (M18 flush), ~10 mm (M30 flush), depending on model.
- The sensors offer very high switching frequencies (for example 1 kHz or 500 Hz in larger sizes) and very low residual current when target is absentโsupporting reliable performance in dynamic systems.
Intrinsic Synchronism
- Internal electronics are optimised for NAMUR output: low power consumption when no target (e.g., <1 mA), change in impedance when target present, no external synchronising wiring required beyond the amplifier.
- Rapid response and minimal delay support integration into fast automation or safety circuits even in restricted or hazardous environments.
Operational Advantages
- Intrinsically Safe Output: The NAMUR interface makes the sensor suitable for hazardous-area installations and systems where external amplifiers are used for signal conditioning.
- Versatility in Mounting & Size: With M4 through M30 thread sizes and shielded/unshielded versions, the NAMUR Series adapts to compact spaces or larger detection fields.
- High Reliability & Precision: With repeat accuracy better than < 3% and consistent detection across metal materials, the sensors yield dependable performance even in harsh conditions.
- Applications: Ideal for automation systems requiring metal object detection with NAMUR outputโsuch as hazardous-area conveyors, intrinsically safe robots, chemical/petrochemical equipment, and general manufacturing where safety, space constraints, and material flexibility are required.
