The DS3 Series light-grid sensors are engineered for wide-area object detection and dimension measurement across a vertical sensing plane rather than at a single point. With both detection and measurement modes, they deliver robust performance in conveyor, packaging and manufacturing applications.

Design & Functionality

These devices consist of paired emitter and receiver bars built in rugged aluminium profiles. They generate a dense matrix of infrared beams across the sensing height, enabling both simple detection and high-resolution measurement. Controlled heights available include approximately 150 mm, 300 mm, 450 mm and 600 mm. Operating distances for standard models reach up to ~0.6 m, with long-range versions up to ~1.5 m.

Beam Architecture & Measurement Capability

• Parallel-beam mode: Each emitter-receiver pair corresponds to a beam; the analogue 0-10 V output corresponds to the number of beams interrupted, enabling measurement of object size.
• Crossed-beam mode: Several emitters illuminate multiple receivers in sequence for higher resolution detection—including thin or transparent objects—down to ~0.5 mm in ideal conditions (crossed-beam mode).
• Typical resolutions: ~6 mm (parallel beams) or ~0.5 mm (crossed beams) depending on model and mode.
• Response times vary by model: e.g., ~3 ms in short-distance versions, ~12 ms in long-distance versions for certain sizes.
• Digital PNP switching output triggers when an object interrupts the field; analogue output provides a proportional voltage for measurement feedback.
• Remote teach-in and calibration functions support setup and adaptation to application needs.
