The DS2 Series measurement and detection light grids are designed to monitor an entire vertical plane rather than a single point, delivering high-precision object presence detection and dimensional measurement. These light grids are suitable for automation systems requiring both size verification and high throughput detection.

Design & Functionality

The DS2 light grids comprise an emitter unit and a receiver unit mounted opposite each other, generating a dense matrix of infrared beams across the detection height. The grids are available in a range of heights (from ~150 mm up to ~1650 mm) and two main beam resolutions (≈6 mm for high‐resolution models, ≈25 mm for longer‐range/fewer beam models). Operating distances reach up to 10 m depending on model variant. The units offer both switching output (PNP) and analog output (0-10 V) as well as RS-485/Ethernet interfaces for advanced configuration and data access.

Multi‐Beam Architecture & Measurement Capability

• Beam matrix spans the full height of detection, enabling presence detection, counting, and measurement of object dimensions by registering beam interruptions.
• With ~6 mm resolution models, the grid can reliably detect small objects and provide dimensional accuracy; with ~25 mm resolution models, it supports extended range up to 10 m.
• Analog output corresponds to number of interrupted beams (or position of the first/last beam) enabling analog signalling of object size or position.
• Output switching modes include detection, size measurement, contiguous beam count, transition count, and more.
• Configuration is possible via dip-switches or PC/graphical interface when equipped with serial or Ethernet communication.
