Festo Application-Specific Valve Terminals

Festo’s application-specific valve terminals are engineered specifically for automation systems requiring high density, compact installation and application-oriented functionality. Unlike universal valve terminals, these modules are tailored for special requirements such as space constraints, integrated intelligence and simplified installation.

These valve terminals integrate multiple pneumatic valves on a single manifold rail, allowing electrical and pneumatic supplies to be centralised. This results in fewer individual tubing runs, reduced cabling and faster commissioning.  They are ideal for applications in which installation space is limited and system efficiency and diagnostics are critical.

⭐ Important: These valve terminals deliver compact footprint, high integration and system-ready diagnostics β€” making them optimal for modern automation environments with advanced control, monitoring and maintenance needs.

Design & Functionality

Application-specific valve terminals incorporate a manifold base, modular valve positions and centralised supplies. Each manifold rail may host a number of valve stations, each with options for solenoid actuation, pilot control, manual override and plug-in diagnostics.

Installation is streamlined: the pneumatic supply (compressed air) and electrical supply are connected only once; then the manifold distributes to each valve position. This minimises tubing work and reduces wiring complexity.

Various connection types are supported (e.g., multi-pin plug, ribbon cable, I-Port / IO-Link interface) to suit fieldbus integration, enabling intelligent diagnostics and networked automation systems.

Total Crossed Beams

The product range covers full functionality for specific automation needs: compact manifold widths, multiple valve positions (e.g., 2 to 24 valve positions on one manifold) and high solenoid coil counts (e.g., up to 48 coils) in one terminal.

Regardless of installation orientation or control architecture, the manifold system provides consistent performance, enabling complex valve configurations in confined machine spaces.

Beam Pitch Options

Translated as: the design variants and configuration flexibility:
β€’ Manifold rail widths optimised for space-saving (e.g., narrow width per valve station)
β€’ Modular valve positions allowing mixture of solenoid types (single solenoid, double solenoid, pilot valves)
β€’ Electrical connectivity variants: multi-pin Sub-D, ribbon cable, M12 (I-Port/IO-Link)
β€’ Pneumatic outlets in multiple orientations (straight, angled) and standardised threads (G1/8, QS push-in, etc)

⭐ Important: The breadth of variants (manifold width, connectivity, valve functions) ensures the valve terminal can be tailored precisely to machine-specific or space-critical automation applications.

Intrinsic Synchronism

Internal manifold and valve module architecture ensures that all valve positions share centralised supply and return paths, providing synchronized motion control and simplified maintenance. The manifold rail ensures consistent pressure and flow distribution to every valve station.

In multi-station setups, alignment, mounting rails, and modular modules support easy replacement, expansion and standardised connection geometry, increasing system uptime and interchangeability.

Operational Advantages

β€’ Space-saving installation due to compact manifold design and integrated supplies
β€’ Reduced installation time and costs thanks to centralised cabling and tubing
β€’ High integration of pneumatic and electrical functions (valves, diagnostics, network interfaces)
β€’ Flexibility to tailor the system for machine-specific tasks and environments
β€’ Improved system diagnostics and maintenance readiness for high-availability automation systems

Applications: Automotive assembly lines, packaging machines, handling systems, robotics cells, food & beverage processing lines, pharmaceutical manufacturing and other specialised factory automation installations.
